Either mobile (cell) or house phone (if they knocked at your door).
If yes, how long would you allow their call to last ?
Would their appearance affect your decision ?

Apprearance is everything these days sad to say. I would not allow a person into my home, instead I would allow them to use a portable or mobile phone. I would dial the number for them and I would stand by them for the whole conversation. If it was a man I would not allow him to use my phone at all, instead offer him 60 cents to use the pay phone.

Yes, couldn't imagine it being different from lending the same person 50p to call the person they wanted to call. The call should be short like under 2 minutes. Anything more than 10 minutes (even for emergencies) is taking the piss.
Appearances does not show the person's intentions so why would that affect my decision? My decisiion is based on how long they are using it for, whether they will run off with the phone and what is the purpose of the call.

yes i would lend the phone.
But they could not leave the house with it.
And i think appearance would matter.
I would not let a guy who looked like he was high on the phone, yet if it were a woman who had broken down in her car or something than yes.... Anyone can reverse charge a phone call from any phone line including a telephone box.
I think that family and life are more important than a drug dealer, user, or abuser being invited inside to make a call which may not even be real. I value and love my family to much

If someone knocked on my door and asked to use my phone I would allow it if the person had an emergency situation. Appearances would not affect my decision because looks are deceiving. Many people got hurt or worse because they opened their door to a so-called well dressed and well mannered person. Use your instincts and stay cautious.

If they needed help or something I would though I've seen news stories that started with a stranger knocking on the door for the phone and ending with the people dead. So maybe not if they knocked on my door but if they needed it somewhere else. And not for over 2 minutes.

Cell-yes, if they had an emergency, I am blessed to have has someone help me in a pinch!
Home, no, but I would make the call for them, once again, only if it was an emergency.
Both calls, long enough to get them the help they need.
Appearances do matter, my judgment for my safety comes first. A single woman and a big Male, I would use caution.

What goes around...comes around..:) You may need to make a phone call one day:)

Ha Ha! I saw a TV show where that was the gag. The actor asked to use a phone and then had a really long fake conversation just to see what the person would do... Yeah, I'd lend my phone to someone, or let them send a text. Not so sure about letting them in the house though. I'd have to tidy up!

Yes i would. I pay one price reagardless of where the call is in the U.S. Yes there appearance would make a differance, i wouldnt even open the door if they were scary. And if i was alone and no male i wouldnt open the door at all. Better to be safe than sorry.
