That depends on the contract he has with the theatre. Usually, they will tell you at the audition if the role is compensated or not. Some places will pay a minimal amount to cover the cost of gas. Other houses will pay a slightly larger scale depending upon the size of the role. Pay for non-union actors is hit and miss in this business.
