When I was a kid I had a series of 3 or 4 books all with a cassette tape you could follow along with. The main character in each book was an animal. The one I remember best was about a dog that had to collect feathers for a pillow and put them in a wheel-barrow to take somewhere...anyway...the moral of the story was "haste makes waste" because he ran so fast with the feathers they all flew out, and he had to collect them all over again. I also remember the covers being pastel colors. Periwinkle...sea foam..light pink.

Animal stories with morals are usually Aesop's fables. There are oodles of editions. Maybe check with your local library or Amazon.com to see if the covers look familiar.
