Hi. I'm 17 years old and I have a girl problem. I have not had a period in 2 years. I went to the doctor and he kept suggesting a pregnancy test and I refused. I am NOT pregnant. I've never had sex, so I can't be pregnant. What do you think is going on? Is it hormones or something? I'm just wondering.

I eat healthy, Exercise regularly, not on any medicine. I'm not 18, so a OBGYN or whoever they are won't see me til I'm 18.

Irregularity is normal. Not having a period for 2 yrs is not normal. Your doctor does not seem to be taking your concern seriously. Get a new doctor. If you are not seeing a board certified OBGYN I would suggest that, rather than a MD or DO. OBGYN actually specialize in womens health.
Look smarty; OB/ GYN is an abbreviation for obstetrician/ gynecologist. An OB/ GYN's job is to screen for certain diseases including cancers of the breasts, cervix, uterus, vagina and surrounding area. Another important part of an OB/ GYN's job is to diagnose and treat female reproductive health issues that include sexually transmitted diseases, menstrual issues, diseases of the breasts, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries, as well as fertility problems, and premenstrual syndrome and menopause related issues.
I have no idea where you got the idea they wont see you if you are not 18 but that is a load of BS. Every woman should make an appointment with their OB/ GYN every year beginning at the age of 21, or within three years of sexual intercourse if under age 21. It's extremely important to return for annual Pap smears and pelvic exams according to individual recommendations by your OB/ GYN. Also, consult your OB/ GYN anytime you experience anything that is not normal for you or if have any questions about your reproductive health.

Personally I would look for another doctor as this one obviously isn't very good. I assume you have had periods in the past so its not a case of delayed puberty. You probably have hormone problems and it needs to be investigated.
The doctor should accept your word that you are nor pregnant but it wouldn't hurt to take the test if it gets you the proper investigations sooner, but I understand your reluctance to take it.

Definitely have that checked out- sometimes if you're over active athletically or aren't eating enough, or a combination of both, it could cause that; however, there could be other causes that are more long term. Have your doctor check you out- most doctors agree it is not incredibly healthy for women to not have their cycle, unless they are on some type of hormone therapy or pills that causes them to do other wise. Don't wait any longer. Good luck.

Are you eating regularly and healthy? That can have an effect on your periods. Go back to your doctor, and have the test. It won't hurt and he will trust you more. Then, he will start looking for other causes. Sad, I know, but that's how it is.

You may want to find a different doctor and get a second opinion. There seems to be an imbalance of something in your body. Maybe you could be prescribed birth control to start your periods and keeps them regular. But really need to see a doctor and not sit on yahoo answer and strangers about what you have. They can tell you they had something like that and give you the names but in reality you need to see a doctor.

hey honey
It could be the fact that your hormones have not settles properly yet.
Although it is possible that you have PCOS (polycyctric ovarian syndrome) although you are still very young for this. it is very easily diagnosed by having a blood test just ask your doctor if you don't get any were ask to see another.
Good luck

I'd say your just not regular yet..I'm 21 and just recently (last couple months) have been getting my period on time. But 2 years?!??? I would go to a differnt doctor. Try a gyno if that's not who you went to the first time.

Honey, even though you never had sex, something is obviously wrong, and you should take the pregnancy test just to be safe. Has the doctor put you on any medication?

It could be severe stress, or if you are an athlete, heavy physical activity tends to make a period disappear.. which is very unhealthy... If your doctor keeps saying it every time, i would just do it to humour him so that he can try some other testing to find out what is going on.
