Lots of violance/hacking up in this film -- battles plus the burned priest, beheaded wife on the road, Godfrey's men's skirmish when Balian joins them and then there's that sex scene between Balian and Sibylla (which seemed out of place in the film to me, by the way). Yeah, it needed an R.

Face reality. Hollywood is in business to make money. Some 80% of the US population calls itself "christian". If only the 20% that were NOT "christian" went to R-rated movies, Hollywood would make no money on them and would stop making them. Obviously, considering how many R-rated moves sell tickets like mad and get numerous Academy Award nominations, it is obvious that plenty of "christians" DO watch R-rated movies. Reality #2, the sex and language in the R-rated movies are relatively tame, most modern teenagers are not learning anything new in either department. Blessings on your Journey!
