If I wanted to be a therapist through a newspaper column or magazine, what would this profession be called exactly and how could I go about beginning this career? How many years of college would this require? Could I still have my own office like I've always dreamed about, what companies already offer jobs like this?

Basically, no matter what the subject matter, when you write for magazines and newspapers you are involved in journalism. In the case of magazines, you'd more likely simply be referred to as a columnist (or advice columnist). To do what you propose, however, you'd need some credentials in what ever subject area you are giving advice. If you are giving advice on relationships and the like, it'd be a good idea to have at least a psychology degree (minor in journalism, though, while you take psychology).

Yes, you should get your therapist credentials first. This way when you write, you have credibility and experience. Major in your therapist stuff and minor or double major in Journalism. This should set you up real good. Those jobs you're talking about are few and in between. To build up your resume, start off with online journal and magazines (its easier to begin writing to them) Also, offer to do them for free. This will give you experience and get your name out there. Then eventually you can apply for paying gigs once your resume is full and a magazine sees that you know how to do it, are qualified and have the experience. Good luck!

You would have to study a speciaty then top it off with being recognised as a field leader, a journalism course would also be a winner

Depends on what kind of therapist-counseling/speech therapy/occupational therapy, etc. Please consult with an advisor at your local comm. college to find out the classes, and how long it would take. Take care.
