Yes. There are more important things to think about that affect us all, like global warming.

The two most murderous regimes in the history of the world were not only a-religous, but anti-religious, at least in the conventional sense. Communist Russia did try to "ban all religions" but that didn't bring peace, only misery, death, destruction and hopelessness. Nazi Germany also was an enemy of religion, killing millions of Jews, imprisoning priests, and trying to undermine religion.
WWI, one of the bloodiest conflicts in history, also wasn't fought in the name of any god, but in the name of nationalism. When God isn't the highest authority, then the nation is, so when the nation tells you to fight and die, then you must. And if nation isn't an authority, then there is no authority but the self, leading to anarchy, and thus to mass destruction and death.
As for "contributing to mankind," how many hospitals and schools and universities have atheists founded? How many Catholic schools, hospitals and charities are there? How about for other Christian groups?
Slavery was ended by Christian, religious people. The civil rights movement was spearheaded by religious, christian groups, both black and white. Recall that Martin Luther King, Jr. was first of all a minister. Without religion we are left with slavery, every man for himself, chaos and rule by force. Show me a society without religion, and I will show you one without hope or peace (like N. Korea).
Do you think that Arabs were peaceful before Islam? Were the Vikings peaceful before Christianity? America is less Christian than it was 100 years ago, is it more peaceful? Is it less violent?
Who would you fear more: a church-going Christian, who believes that murder is a sin and he will be punished for his sins, or someone who doesn't believe in God, and believes that death is the end?

The problem originates not in religion as a form of spirituality and way of life, but in the mixing of religious fundamentalism with hate and extremist politics. The leadership, elite and corrupt religious authority get together and create an underground network of militancy to further their own goals. In doing this, (e.g. Iran, Syria, Iraq, Yemen) they can vent their anger onto their own people and at other countries. It is not the people who are at fault here, since most of these countries are not democracies.

There are only two democracies in the Middle East-Turkey and Israel. Morocco and Tunisia have some promise but they are unstable. Turkey still has a way to go with human rights and stability issues, and is in desperate need of Western aid.

Religion isn't a fairytale-but war is a definitely a nightmare
I believe the killing should stop and stop killing in Gods name.

Below, two of the 10 commandments

You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.

You shall not murder.

If you look at Gods laws, they are not there for anything other than to show love. They are all to avoid pain, hurt or suffering. God only wants love to be spread, not pain and suffering and these laws show this.

There is a scene in the film Dogma which says it perfectly -

"Rufus: He still digs humanity, but it bothers Him to see the s**t that gets carried out in His name - wars, bigotry, televangelism. But especially the factioning of all the religions. He said humanity took a good idea and, like always, built a belief structure on it.

Bethany: Having beliefs isn't good?

Rufus: I think it's better to have ideas. You can change an idea. Changing a belief is trickier. Life should malleable and progressive; working from idea to idea permits that. Beliefs anchor you to certain points and limit growth; new ideas can't generate. Life becomes stagnant. "

Of course.... but it has been happening since the beginning of time, so it isn't something that will change overnight. And it hasn't just been the "fairytale" religions .... think of the Catholic Church and the Crusades, or Martin Luther's Protestants and the witch trials. And it doesn't start with the religion's mandate to erase a population. It begins with the people accepting indoctrination. So maybe we, as humanity, need to stop killing (without any preference as to reason) and to start thinking for ourselves.

It has been time since the beginning of time. You might wish to rephrase "fairytale religions and stupid God" God or Gods didn't make war and kill, MAN DID.

Yup, totally, couldn't agree more. One doesn't need religion, only common sense to know that murder is, like, WRONG? And they need to contribute something other than their religious claptrap to mankind - something that makes sense would be a start.

Yes, if religious people as a whole spent half the time they now spend trying to convert everyone to their faith and threatening people with hell and whatnot, actually practising the do-goody bits of their religions, the world would be a so much nicer place!

all religions teach not to kill unless its in end days and for survival and only then can you kill demons which all is barmy as unless you physically in a few years see angels and demons and choose a side then everyone who kills be it human or animals or insects has sinned, we are all sinners technically therefore everyone who is religious at some point HAS sinned, kinda hypocritical for the fanatics dont you think, by doing what they THINK is the right thing, they are sinning, hmmmmmm, who made this stuff up???

We are separated and controlled this way. To keep us from finding truth. Think about it. If you divide, keep them busy with each other, you conquer.
As for stupid god, bad choice of words, sometimes karma comes quick.
There will come a day not to far off. That day will unlock those binds and realease the last tribe/era. Until that day comes, this will most likely keep going on an on.
