It's an opportunity to bond with friends and family, at a bar or at home or wherever, over plates of nachos and biscuit wrapped hot dogs or monstrous pots of chilli or what have you...or whatever other munchies you can come up with...wash it down with tons of soda or adult beverages and have a great time...
and then, when the game is over, and we've watched all the overblown, overrated commercials ( I do love the commercials though, specially the e-trade ones) and shows that seem to accompany the SB, we complain that we ate/imbibed too much and relive it all again the next day around the water cooler at work!
In this day and age, people need reasons to celebrate, there is a lot of pain and sadness in our world and this game bonds us and offers us escape for a few hours...It shows us we are all human and shows us triumph of spirit and team and all that other jazz...
I'm all for anything that brings people together for the better!

i dont think anybody acts like its a national holiday. really its just another excuse to have fun with friends gamble eat food watch a game ...for me its a better holiday than thanksgiving...i watch the game alone and i dont have to pretend to like all the crap people make for dinner.

It's not like the 4th of July...well, wait...there IS a lot of bar-b-queing going on, and a lot of family and friends are gathering together, and there are going to be fireworks...
it IS a national holiday!

'Cause football guys like hanging around with their buds, watching football. The super bowl is the most important football game, so they like it. I don't like watching games, It's boring, you can watch the highlights the next morning. *But I do like the comercials they're the best during the super bowl*
