Wars are never caused by religion. They are caused by politicians, who sometimes masquerade as religious leaders. They start the wars, to enhance their power, but they are not the ones who fight them.

Religion is used to start wars because it is one thing people are willing to die for - it's more important than life. Look at the states with their god bless america or britain with god save the queen - why do you think the pope wielded so much power and henry the 8th made himself head of the church. Why do you think the communists banned it and lets face it communism is a religion too as are most politiacal ideoligies like democracy and capitalism. Give people a cause and they will line up to die.

Most wars are caused by clever people who want to be richer and more powerful and religion is all about power - power over the minds of others - and sadly most people are very easy to manipulate and control look at the modern media people believe eveything they see on TV.

People cause wars not religion but it is often the excuse and the means.

Almost all the so-called communist states were state-capitalism systems where the government runs at the expense of the citizens. Very few true communist nations ever lasted very long and not many of these ever went to war with other communist nations.

Most wars are caused by ambition and greed. Many warmongers justify their actions and gain support by claiming religious motivation, but this rarely is the true case.

What idiot said Zero is a moron. The war in 1948 was with the States and Stalin, and including 70 years of war with Communism and on going? Look at this terrorism all over the world? Who do you think gave them the artillery and technology?
Come on it is the same people and their kids, relatives and followers. My God almighty Wake up! Fascism is Communism and so are these religious wars that are created now that the Nazis continued to support when they hid in the Arab countries after the war with the money to support the attacks on Israel. Read your history. Those war criminals escaped with lots of money and power from our governments in general. The ones who believed here in that Nazi crap would not come out openly, now would they ?
Watch Marathon Man , Dustin Hoffman, Lawrence Olivier?
Or read the trial of Eichman? The Nazis opened the door for communism and the turks/Russian alliance has been since the Ottoman Society. Look it up. These rich moguls are getting away with this only because America is a threat to Russia et al.
So as long as we stay a threat the Arabs play both ends against the middle to stay alive?
The Arabs need Russia to back them with this war with Arms and cover, so they do. Russia does not care because they are spreading like a disease and they will soon take Africa like they wanted to a long time ago. Look at the Attacks on Africa now from the Arabs. Forget that religious crap it is a people they are called Arabs and they represent 21 countries in league the United Arab Republic? Get it? And they include Russia as their Ally.

You left out some rather salient points... For example, during WWI and WWII (which you claim were "political"), all sides involved used religion to rally their citizens to join up and fight against the "evil" (also stated in religious terms) enemy. The Germans did it, the English did it, the US did it, the Japanese did it. Why leave all that off? The Korean war *did* have a religious aspect to it -- it was promoted in the US as the fight against "godless communists." You also seem to have forgotten that "W" claimed "god" told him to invade Iraq. Either you don't know your history very well, or you're intentionally ignoring facts that show your claims false. Either way, there's no reason to give your claims any merit. You've also very selectively chosen 20th and 21st century conflicts -- go back further than that, and you'll find a religious motivation or claim to be involved in a significantly higher number of wars -- including *every* war in Europe fought for well over 500 years. Yes, wars are very often "about" power, land, resources, and greed. They're also very often "about" religious conflicts, and even when that's not a main "cause," it's used to rally people to fight -- making it involved in nearly every conflict in human history. Please go get some more education.

The last war that was caused by religion, was in the 1200's to 1500's......... somewhere there.

Korea & Viet Nam was about trying to stop communism from taking over the world.

ARUNDHATI (above) has a GREAT answer.
Lots of things are Religion, if you want to spread them out:
Communism was in a way an Anti-God Religion.
Unbelievers In God today consider themselves a Religion.
The Druggies & Hippies from the 60's & 70's were a Religion.

Communist states tend to auto-destruct. Look up Stalin, Pol Pot or Mao Zedong for a few examples. But then communism functions as a surrogate religion for a most communists so maybe they don't count.

not all wars are caused by the same thing(except for the fact that its human nature to destroy ourselves)some are caused by religion, some by opposing political views, some by soccer(haha), some for money, and others just because some people are power hungry and crazy.
