I think it is hilarious when people say words incorrectly.

Orientate.
Hopefully.
Conversate.

I just read a question here that says "configurate."

It's not a slam, it's just funny...but it has way of making you sound like you don't know what you are talking about.

Do you have any words/phrases that bother you or tickle you when misused, or mis-suffixed? Does it matter to you?

Here is my grand boo-boo.

I was at an open forum discussion when the Gulf War broke out. I was in college at the time, and trying to be all smart about it. I had a question and raised my hand...and I don't remember exactly what I asked but I used the word...

...Iraqians....

in front of about 200 people. I KNOW that this isn't right. It just kind of fell out of my mouth. I stopped talking immediately and sat down humiliated.

Stop worrying about the language so much and just use it. Language is what people speak, not what some professor says it should be. Hopefully you see that there is nothing wrong with using hopefully in this way, because that's what hopefully means - it may not be what it meant 50 years ago, but the language has changed.

awww, we all say stupid stuff. annoying: absotively posalutely. funny: my first grade reader, i used to read "my mother and fat her". i used to read esophagus as "esso fagis," and determined as "detter mined"
