I see no reason to keep animals away from babies unless the animal shows to be aggressive. We have a dog and a cat who have been around our daughter since day one. The dog is nuts about her...constantly, much to our dismay, bring her toys and biscuits to share. The cat will sneak into her room sometimes and sleep with her in the crib. She is nine months old now, and we have NEVER had a problem...well, once (I swear this is true) the baby was "petting" the dog and reached over and pulled on one of her nipples. The dog snapped at her...not actually biting her...and knowing she was in trouble took off and hid under the bed for almost an hour.

Well I wouldn't worry. We have a Border Collie/Labrador Cross, a Jack Russell and a cat (had them before I was pregnant) and my nine week old son has been around them since he came home from hospital!

He's fighting fit and perfectly healthy!! Being around the animals hasn't hurt him at all!

The cat has never tried to "smother" him!! In fact the cat couldn't care less about the baby - he pays him no attention at all. That smothering thing is a stupid old wives tale.

Nor did I catch any "disease" from the cat in pregnancy!

Obviously we never leave our baby alone with the animals.

They are pretty good with him anyway and know not to lick him or get too close to him.

The thing is this is a time where animals lovers and non animal lovers differ because animal lovers see the animals as part of the family and wouldn't worry about them being in the house with the baby (as loing as they're supervised) while non animal lovers are obsessed with the "germs" thing.

As long as the animals are clean and healthy and treated for worms and fleas and you don't let them lick the baby or his toys etc then its fine. My son is proof of that!

Plus kids brought up with animals have stronger immune systems and less allergies when older. Fact.

I have a 6yr old king charles and am 28wks pregnant and no i don't believe i should allow my dog near my baby atleast for the first year/2... I beleive that dog hairs could cause baby to choke, dogs licking my babies face is not the cleanest thing (i wouldnt even let my dog lick my face) CATS are a massive NO NO even when the baby is in ur womb!!! They carry all kinds of diseases. Ask ur nanny to keep the dogs away from ur child cos u dont feel comfortable with them around her. Shih Tzu's cast lots and lots of hair whether they are well groomed or not so really its the hair that bothers me more than anything. If you believe the dog tries to bite/nibble/lick the baby then seriously put ur foot down here as a precaution (you don't want to wait just to see wot happens)

Dogs around babies are alot better than cats. Dont let them lick on the baby and if you think the female is tryin to bite your baby than get the baby away from the dog. Sometimes dogs like to nibble (they wont hurt) But than dogs dont know any better than to bite or not bite a baby. If you dont like the dogs around your baby than ask your nanny to keep them away. You want and know what is best for your child and if it means not letting the dogs around the baby than so be it. good luck

Just make sure you give the dogs baths and keep their teeth clean. I have a dog and my baby just adores her. I think it's a good experience for them to have a pet and I'm trying to let her have as many memories as possible and her doggie makes her so happy. Just make sure you keep them clean but if they're biting then that would be a problem. They could just be playing with them. I know someone who's dog would put their mouth on everyone but wouldn't actually bite so make sure they're not playing before giving up part of your family. Unless your baby is allergic I wouldn't worry about the dogs making them sick.

I know exactly what you mean. I have a four month old and my husband wanted to take in a stray baby kitten but I said no. I think dogs are better around babies than cats but still I think you should tell they nanny to not let them lick your baby.

We have 2 cats and a dog but do not allow them near the baby,I would suggest you try to keep them away especially from licking her and even biting her.

at first, i can't have confidence the various terrible solutions i'm examining. Pit Bulls are bred to be vicious? specific, in the event that they arrive from a combating line yet whilst your canine comes from a line that cares with regard to the breed then no. and that i can't have confidence some human beings stated aggressive habit. in case you choose a family contributors friendly canine then you definitely can't tutor aggressive habit in direction of the canine. Your doggy is expressing widely used doggy habit. She is teething and he or she is sorting out how plenty she will wreck out with. now's the suited time for valuable reinforcement training. it extremely is significant you are trying this earlier infant comes. enroll in an authorized training software and tell your coach you're maximum worried with regard to the infant and doggy nipping. If a doggy nips your scream OWW loudly. enable your canine sniff infant products and play sounds of infant cries so as that via the time your infant arrives she would be use to it. After your infant arrives placed aside slightly time to spend with your canine so she does not get jealous. undergo in ideas there are different training procedures yet expressing aggression in direction of a canine you choose to hitch the family contributors is in no way a stable concept.

i love animals but would never have any kind of animal no matter how big or small around a baby or even inside the house. you can never be too careful when it comes to the health of a baby. Animals should be kept outside.
