My baby started using a pacifier when she was 4 months old. Now she is 11 months old. I know that if its used for a long time then it will mess up the teeth. But what about when they use it when they are under 1. Does it still have any effects? Another bad thing that ive done that i didnt know about was that i SHOULDN'T leave the pacifier in her mouth while she sleeps. usually when she takes naps i jus let her leave it in her mouth. Sometimes ut stays on for 30 min. I feel bad that i didnt know. Will it make her baby teeth grow out Bad?

My children's dentist told me if it was gone before they were 4 that there is typically no permanent damage to their teeth.

I've heard something like that, but I 'm not qualified to answer that, however I do know that sleeping with it IS a problem. Bottles are bad too. Never let your child get into the habit of sleeping with those things. A drink of water at bedtime and that's it. With those things being left in her mouth, it becomes a haven for bacteria, I hope you are brushing her teeth regularly, twice a day? My 2 friends ended up with children who have very bad teeth at 3 years of age because of those bad habits, and they are YOUR habits not the baby's. She doesn't need that anymore. If it's tough to take it away from her try this: A friend of mine told her son that at Christmas, Santa comes to get the 'sucy' and leaves gifts in return!! It's crazy but it so worked, at 1year.old the baby gave the 'soucy' away to Santa.. Correct the problem now, so you don't have to pay for it in the future. Good Luck

Don't worry!!

During a child's first few years, sucking habits are unlikely to cause significant damage to a child's mouth. But persistent and long-term sucking, especially after the permanent teeth begin to come into the mouth around age 6, can cause:

The top front teeth to slant out.
The bottom front teeth to tilt in.
The upper and lower jaws to be misaligned.
The roof of the mouth to be narrowed.

Most are safe for the teeth. My girl is 2 and still uses hers only at night.
If she loses it we really have a problem.they don't make that brand anymore.
someone let a much older child use one(im guessing age) bit the pubber part off and choked to death.
Ironically it stays in better shape longer and is the safest 1 made I believe.
I also believe the parents failed to keep checking the condition of the rubber part.
They ware out and lose thier ability to snap back to origional place and shape. if its color changes or developes white spo6ts like bottle nipples do the rubber is deteriorating.
stop using it.
There is a lot more to it than damage to teeth.

Most pacifiers today are made to be orthodontically safe. Just check the package to see if it says "orthodontic pacifier" and make sure you are using the one that's appropriate for her age. The shape of them should grow with your baby's jaw size.
It is much better for your baby's teeth to be using a pacifier as opposed to sucking her thumb!!
