My friend got a guinea pig over the summer.
They bought a collar made for guinea pigs at pets mart and put him on it and walk him now. It's really gotten him used to people and now he's hardly ever scared.
Maybe you should try this...

give this animal time to adjust. he/she was probably raised in a environment with very little contact with people.place it where it can see you and leave it alone except for short handling periods at first.hand feed carrots- lettuce- any fresh vegetation by hand. don,t get discouraged this will take some time and always remember guiena pigs aren't very intelligent

dONT TAKE IIT PERSONAL!!!!!!!!!
i have a guinea pig and weve had her for a few months.......
they do tend to be a bit "SHY" in the beginning but just give him a day or two and hell come right out of it............
try to lure him out with some carrots and every time you walk by call him like your were calling a cat with a ticking sound......
i barely started picking up my piggy this week i was never able to.............she still doesnt like me to.
well just hang in there and give it a few more days.
he WILL eventually come around and want to "CHAT" with you
good luck and dont take it personal!!!!!!!!!!

i've never had a g-pig, but in te pet store i always try to hold them, and they run, so it's going to take time to make one of those things sociable, and bond with you. don't get frustrated, just feed him treats, and be patient.

be very patient and don't rush. Very soon indeed, that little rodent will think of you as the best thing since the wheel.
Don't be loud or make fast movements near him for a good while.
