I can understand oil companies needing to make money - but how can they justify hiking prices while still reporting record profits? I know of people who are foregoing buying prescriptions and clothes for their kids because they are paying such high prices for the gasoline they need in order to get to work each day. This is not right in a country as rich as America. Any ideas as to what the public can do ?

It seems that no one will do anything about it - I have written to my Congressmen several times about just this topic.

The main question I tried to raise was: How can the oil companies justify the fact that if crude goes up by $1 a barrel one day, they raise prices by 5 cents a gallon the next morning.
Yet, if crude goes down by $1 a barrel it takes a week for prices to go down by 5 cents a gallon.

I do not understand how the oil companies can get away with this with our congressmen not questioning them on it.

You really should address your question to Mr.Bush and Mr. Chaney, both very rich oil men. What the oil companies are doing is a national disgrace. The mess in Iraq has taking over as the hot topic of the day, and your very serious question is rarely, if ever, brought up in the media. The public can write letters to their official representatives in Washington D.C. asking what they are doing , and why they are silent about the National rip-off of the American public. When I write them, I always remind my representatives that a lot of us will remember their do-nothing attitude when it's time to vote.
