I'm trying to organise a fundraiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, but I can't think of an effective fundraiser. I don't want to do the catalogs or chocolate or cheesecake, or stuff like that; I want to do something more relevant to theatre, Broadway, and the like.

Please help? Thanks.

well, off the top of my head,

you could get your troup to go downtown or on a street with lots of foot trafic and do some performing of some sort.

put on a performance and sell tickets and say that the proceeds go to ________ (what ever you want) and sell baked goods or soda and cotton candy or something like that

Something that would be really fun for your club as well as a productive fundraiser is a dinner theater. If you live in a town with avid theater goers you'll probably be able to put it together and sell out relatively easily. Especially if you do an audience -involved script! Try Murder on the Riverboat Queen in which everyone participates or use your own fun script. It doesn't have to be a mystery, it can be comedy or just a neat story. Talk to local restaurants and see who you can involve to cater for a reasonable price, or even if you have a particularly caring owner perhaps they'll donate the food and time in exchange for ads on your programs. You can print programs at home for little cost, get together costumes from your own closets and from thrift shops. If you have a culinary school nearby, consider asking student chefs to help out with the event. You'll be surprised by how many people are willing to help if you just ask, especially with such a worthy cause! And dinner theater is always a lot of fun for everyone involved! You can even take donations after the show if anyone is inclined to give more than the ticket price! Good luck, this is something I would love to help with!

You could get tickets to a theatre show and then raffle them off. Around here people are always raising money with raffles. Since I live in a small town in Tennessee we usually raffle a homemade quilt or a shotgun. It almost always brings a lot of money. If you live in an area with a lot of fine restaurants then you could ask for a donation of two feel meals to go along with the theatre tickets. that would give the evening the full affect of a night out. If the restaurant and the theatre donate these gifts then all the money you make will be yours.

That's a smart thing to raise money for!
I personally think that if you have some funny people in your drama club, or even quite a few of them, do like, a talent show, and put up posters everywhere. People will pay the money to come see it!

If you are looking for something more broadway, then try repeating a broadway classic that people love to watch - once again, people will definetely pay the money to come see it!

I hoped that this helped!!

There are 2 great ideas used in my hometown:
50's drive in----do this at a local church or community center. Print a menu with burgers, fries, malts & sundaes, and stage a 50's style drive in diner. Have car-hops (preferably on roller skates) and the old trays that hook to the car window. If you can rig up speakers to order, even better!

Flamingos!
For $10, the group fundraising will "plant" a flock of 30 of
those cheesy lawn flamingos on a yard....then the homeowner has to pay $10 to have them removed. And you can pay $10 "flamingo insurance", then nobody can "flock" you! This usually gets some newspaper notice so it spreads, and is great fun.

Good luck!

Put on a show similar to the Ziegfield Follies. Have students print tickets, programs, build sets, etc. as a class project, get as many faculty members and alumni from your school involved in your project as you can because that's where the deep pockets are, it takes money to raise money. Don't forget to remind donors that they can take a tax deduction for the donation. Advertise, advertise, advertise! The wider you can cast your net the more fish you're going to catch.

Put a show together, find a cheap or free venue and charge or ask for donations at the door. An Improvisation night can tick to boxes: help your drama group to improve and raise fund. If successful you can even make it a regular fixture. I've added a link to my website with impro workshops and games suggestion. Best of luck.

community service events like.......

bag groceries for tips at a local store while in costume so that you can advertise your event too.

set up to wait tables for tips also while in costume

but for all fundraising events you MUST prove that you are a legitament organization ... if you are just someone trying to do this out of thin air then you should realize that you'd be breaking the law unless you get clearancee from your local police dept.

Adding to the do a charity show (where you do a show and sell tickets then give the money away), you can sell adds for your shows program. Sell ad space to local businesses (full page ad, half page, 1/4 page). Then you put their ads in the program to your show. You get money, they get advertising. All you need is a good computer person to fix up the programs for you. I did the programs for all my highschool plays.
