It is a SUGGESTION that you start to move them onto beakers from about 6 months, its to do with teeth. Mosy companies, like Avent and Tomee Tippee do a stage by stage progression, so that it is not just one huge change - for example, you can use the spouts from the beaker on the bottle, then you can add handles, then you can change spouts, then you can change the bottle to a beaker. Have a look in Boots or Mothercare, there is a huge selection!!

I found with my 7 month old that we had to try several different beakers before we found one she accepted.

There are lots of beakers which are a cross between a bottle and a beaker. My 13 month old likes the idea of being the same as every one else so she has "fruit shoots water drink" which have a pull up top sports bottle when she is with her cousins. My daughter also tells me to call her babies beakers bottles to her How about when you take your son shopping go to the baby children aisle and buy him a beaker letting him choose one he likes himself There are so many different ones and the have some with a top of latex like a teat but it has the spout of a beaker I think it is called NU BY or NOBY i think we got it in Tesco .He is not too young to choose if you hold up a couple he will take one, Our family each have a special cup that we always have our hot drinks in if you said "look his name you have a special cup just like mummy and daddy so you can have your drinks in it because you are a big boy " this might encourage him . Don't make a big thing of him coming off the bottle and will discard the bottle when he is confident to.

My son is 11 months old and still has his milk in a bottle (which I am trying to change) but has his juice/water in a beaker. to get him used to a beaker, I would give it to him at the end of every meal to play with, after a couple of weeks, I then put in some water, he soon learnt what it was for. He has had a beaker since he was 6 months, and now is on to a handle-less one. I am still trying to crack milk in a beaker, but we are slowly getting there. I poor his milk from his bottle to his beaker so he can see, and he is slowly taking a little bit more each time.

From experience I would say to just slowly switch them out. I assume a beaker is a sippy cup. Try and find one that he still has to suck to get the milk out of it. Try switching it in the mornings, before taking a nap, or before bed time.... something consistent. Usually babies don't have a problem with the change. Also I think he has a few more months until it's really necessary to take the bottle away from him completely.

hes only 8 months dont rush him. keep a beaker around the house so he will get used to it bein there dont give drinks in a bottle just milk. use a beaker that is easy to drink from i know some of them are really hard to suck.dont worry all kids are different but they all get there in the end.

Who says what age a baby should or should not be having bottles or beakers it's up to the individual but if you are that concerned Boots and most supermarkets have every kind and colour you will want to try ,but it will be trial and error cos every babe wants their own thing and I'm sure your son will let you know! Good luck and don't worry too much I have 3 big babies now! x

You can buy wide neck bottles with wide flat teats that look like the spout of a feeder cup, but they are made of latex/rubber which isn't so alien to the baby and introduces them to the new way of feeding which is a little less stressful than sticking in a hard spout, I can't remember where I bought my last one from which is a bit of a bummer because I'm going to need one for my son who's ready to start transferring from the breast soon....hope this helps, all the best.

I am guessing that beakers are sippy cups? In any case they say babies are fine on bottles until around 1. But to start breaking put something that your baby likes in the cup and start with that if you start with something your baby doesnt like they will reject the cup. It is the same with when you start them on food you have to try and try and try again. Don't be concerned if it takes awhile you have time.
Good Luck

i don't know what a beaker is but im guessing its a sippy cup? when my son was 9 months old i just gave him a sippy cup no more bottels except at bed time. he didnt seem to mind the change at all. and at 12 months he didn't get a bottle at bed time either it was just a sippy.

He is only 8 months old

use a feeder cup with a spout where he has to suck to get milk out.

don't try it first thing in the morning. he will be too hungry and will get frustrated.

only try once a day to start with

give the bottle last thing at night for comfort.
