I have a Dell Dimension 4550 and the sound card was fried due to a mean virus. I bought a new Diamond 7.1 sound card at Staples, To my surprise it needs a different cable to connect to the motherboard. I went to Comp USA (50 miles away) just to find the right cable and ended up having to try to splice the old and new ones together. No big shock, it didn't work. Can someone maybe suggest a website (besides Dell) to find what I need?

I'm confused too. The only connectors internally should be the CD/DVD connectors. Some have additional connectors to create USB, mic, speaker ports in the front of the computer. Although nice, they are not required for normal operation and are not connected directly to the MB.

The only connector you should need is on your card which connects to your speaker.

If you could provide more details, part numbers, or pictures, maybe that would help.

What are you trying to splice there? Sound card should need NO further connection to mainboard other than the slot it plugs into. Back a couple years a soundcard may need a connection to CD-drive, but to mainboard? Should not need one at all. It has its own sound ports in the back and all that.
