an emergency fix you can do is to use a wire coat hanger, or a length of regular wire, and resure the muffler to the cars underbody.itll buy you a lil bit of time becasue it will limit how much the muffler can move, preventing the stress fatigue that willcause your muffler to fall off.when you have the time, what you can do as a more permanent fix is to get a piece of replacement exhaust pipe from advance auto,or autozone.use a tape measure and find out how wide the existing pipe is,and buy a 3-4 inch long piece, that is 1/4" wider.you should be able to slide the replacement piece over the original pipe. you will have to cut ( or have someone cut for you ) the old pipe so the new one can be placed.then using a cpl exhaust clamps to tighten the pipe into place. good luck with the job interview, naturally when you have enough money, you may want to replace the extension pipe ( thats the name of the pipe between the catalytic convertor and the muffler )

if there is enough metal on the muffler you might be able to use a coat hanger to wire it up so it won't drag and then take about 18 inches of aluminium foil and fold it until it's about 1 inch wide by 18 inches and wrap that around the rusted pipe , secure that with some lighter weight wire and that should get you to the interview and a muffler shop

I have a temp fix! Here in the woods, we use large hose clamps and a beer can. Cut the beer can top and bottom off, then cut down the middle. Wrap that around the pipe and clamp on with the hose clamps. Then use metal clothes hangers to support the weight of the exhaust system in that area if necessary.

you can go to auto parts store and get a metal tape in the muffler section that should hold things together and will definatly be cheaper but remember it is only very temporary.

I've seen a lot of cars with the wire hanger holding the pipe up. I guess if all else fails try Duct tape -- It does everything else.

there really isnt a temporary fix....you need to get it repaired, you could lose some efficiency/gas mileage if you dont get it fixed... the engine needs the proper back pressure your muffler provides

No, and if you live in an area of automobile inspections, that will be an automatic fail. Get it replaced. For your job interview you may have to borrow or rent a vehicle to get there if there is no public transportation.

Cut a piece of sheet metal to size and hold it on with those ring clamps. Only temp though.
