my sound was working fine lastnight. I keep it muted most of the time unless i'm listening to music or somthing,today i went to un mute it and it said:There is a problem with your sound hardware.Why would it say that?Could I have a virus?

You can also try a system restore, hopefully you have saved spots closest to todays date so you would not affect recent additions. If it does not work you can always do a system unrestore to put it back the way you originally had it.

it is not a virus. it is possible that your sound card drivers were somehow altered. the best way to fix this is to reinstall your sound hardware driver (you can find it online but it usually comes with your PC). if that doesn't work, call your PC manufacturer..they'll fix it.
