Some doctors will let you. One of my friends wanted her baby born before Christmas so they induced her, and my other friend wanted to have her baby while her husband was on military leave so she was induced so he could be here for the birth. I guess it really depends on your doctor.

I was also induced with my first baby after discussion with my doctor, on the basis that I was starting to dilate, was 'over it', and I really wanted him to be present (he was going overseas). So some doctors are open to doing it, but generally only at or around term.
Induced labour (via the oxytocin drip) to be much harder than natural labour. The contractions are very intense and start immediately, with no time to adjust to the pain. Statistically, medical intervention in a delivery leads to more and more medical intervention - so induced deliveries are more likely to have epidurals and c sections.
But... if my second child hadn't come along when she did, I would probably have started thinking about being induced again in any case. At least you will have a nice, organised delivery which is helpful when there is a little kid to get sorted out already.
If you are already dilating, its likely things will happen before the 12th in any case!

I had been feeling flu-like for 4-5 days. Since the baby was fine, and I was just miserable, my doctor let me decide. I was induced. But, if I had it to do over, I would see if I would have started labor on my own. I had many hours of difficult labor and couldn't have the epidural until I was dilated to 3 and that took 6-7 hours. So, unless there was a pressing medical reason, I would not be induced. I hear that labor is more gradual, and not so intense if it happens naturally. Best wishes to you.

You can always ask, but trust your doctor's opinion about it. If the conditions are favorable to, it shouldn't be a problem, but if your doctor doesn't feel that it would be a good idea, you have to trust that opinion (that is why he/she is your doctor after all right? because you trust his/her judgement enough to put him/her in charge of your and your child's health...) I think most doctors won't induce until at least after the due date, some after 41 or 42 weeks unless there is a reason to think that it would be better and safer for baby and mother though.

"Do you think it would be a bad idea to ask the doctor to induce me on the 12th?"
Yes. Sorry.

But I think it would be an excellent idea to try and make yourself more comfortable, and ask your doctor to help with that. Ambien (a prescription sleeping pill) is 'pregnancy category B' -- pretty safe. Try a fibre supplement for the diarrhea, but -- if that just shows up, it sounds like you're on your way. Scrap the induction idea, I think, and tuck yourself in bed with some doctor-approved medications, good books, and other comforts.

Being induced isn't something that should be taken lightly. Baby comes when baby is ready. Unless your health or babies is having problems that your doctor feels baby needs to come out, they probably wont. But never hurts to ask. You might go into labour before your due date, with babies you never know. My son came at 38 weeks 3 days on his own..... good luck!

Sounds like nature is not going to let you make it to the 12th to ask to me lol. diarhea and headaches can be a big indicator (I sadi CAN be, not ARE) of impending labor. And with you at 3cm and 75% I'd say it's a matter of days, not weeks.

I asked my doctor to induce me and he said no. He said that I am perfectly healthy the baby as well and that there is no reason to induce therefore he wont do it. My due date is feb 21st.
But go ahead and ask. Every doctor is different ..

The doctor will not induce you just because you want to be. If he is concerned about your health or the baby's then he will induce.
