I do it all the time. You need to buy a DVD recorder though. It works just like a VCR. Hook up the input of the DVD recorder one of the outputs from your Tivo. Then use the function in Tivo called "Record to VCR". The recorded show starts playing. Use the "Record" function on your DVD recorder and voila!
DVD Recorders are getting pretty cheap these days. You can find them for as low as $99. Though most are around $150 or so.

If you have a DVD hooked into your TIVo you should be able to download from your TIVo. On your TIVo screen it will say as one of the options on the main screen, Download to DVD. I have a dual recorder attached and for some reason it comes up as Download to Video, but it can download to both the video and the DVD as it's a DVD burner. Just to let you know for the future, if your TIVo goes, as they sometimes do, having that happen to me,there are units out there that come with burners in them. I have one made by Humex, but there are a number of other ones. What I did was just put into Google "TIVo with burners" and got a lot of different results. TIVo made them about 2 years ago, but had too many problems with the burners, they do die, so they stopped, and let the other companies, like Toshiba and Panisonic and Humax make the units, and you can buy them on the internet.

hi Gilmore lady, you may feed your TiVo instantly into your DVD recorder and connect the output of your DVD recorder into your television so that you will see that what you're doing. you may't immediately delete the classified ads and your recording will be in actual time so that is going to take an hour to record an hour instruct. you may exhibit screen and quick ahead via classified ads in case you pick.
