~I'd probably feel like a real loser. That's what generally happens with the vanquished. But hey, before the Europeans came over, they were doing a pretty fair job of wiping each other out. Rumor has it that the Tuscarrora were perfectly happy in North Carolina until the Cherokee kicked them out. That was ok because the Iroquois Confederation had room to take them in, having displaced the Miami and Cree and most anyone else that tried to hunt in New York. Then there was that one day of peace out west when the Lakota took the day off and didn't kill any Crow. The Hopi and Navaho always got along really well too, as long as they didn't get within 500 miles of one another. And leave us not forget the Utes vs most everyone else between the Plains and the Sierra's. The myth of the peace and harmony of the Native Americans is just that, a myth. England and France got along better. The Anglos and Saxons seem to have assimilated ok when the Normans took over their island, but what the heck, they were all teutonic invaders from the continent who displaced the natives there. Should we give Great Britain back to the Celts and Picts, too? Or Normandy to the French? The Vikings wouldn't like that. We can't give South America back to the Inca and Maya. None left. But maybe there's still time to give New Zealand back to the Maori and Bangladesh to the Indians. Who gets South Africa, the Boers, the Dutch, the Zulu's or the English?

I hope some of the people who already answered read this:
Native people were NOT killing each other off and eating each other before colonization. This is popular myth and was started by the colonizers to make people think of Natives as Savages. It is simply incorrect. In fact life before colonization was amazing with little of the atrocities that we now have today. I can speak of this more if any wishes.

Many Native people experience intergenerational trauma. This means that the trauma that was done directly to their ancestors was carried on by them today. This is becoming common knowledge. It is much like PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder).

Trauma and Racism is still being committed against Native people today and has Devastating affects on Native people. It is not a fight that is over.

As a Native person, how do I feel towards America? That is a loaded question. To put it short, America is in a very sad state.
I want more education about Native people.

I can't speak for them, though I know some/many folks understandably have an amount of bitterness over just everything. How would anyone feel to be invaded, the invaders killing your family and community, taking your children away who you may never see again, forcing you to change to their customs and ways...not good. How do you not feel bitter over all that has been lost at the hands of other people who had no business in those things, then left your people doomed on land with little resources.

And to the prejudiced people here actually trying to speak for them, you can go to hell for it. You do not have the place to actually speak for people you are not a part of and were not even here then! Whites have always been far more barbaric in emotion and treatment of others.

This is for woody. If the europeans were so smart how come we saved there white asses from starving when the first got here? Can you say Thanksgiving? But I guess since we saved them we are the stupid ones. Back in the day, if you hit your woman anywhere, her family could and would come after you and nobody would stop them that they way it was. As far as moving in the "young thing" you couldn't do that either, because the women owned everything. The only things that the men owned were their hunting and war goods.

I would be grateful. If you really want to study harm done to Natives; start to study what happened south of the border. Furthermore, Natives don't pay federal taxes, are allowed to hunt endangered species and now have a casino in nearly every state.

Try going to Mexico and see how they treat their Native Americans. I guess that would be a little difficult for people like you. One last thing; Canada did the same thing as the US.

I agree with bcptm, they were torturing, killing and eating each other long before the Europeans arrived.
The Europeans just happened to be more intelligent and had superior technology.

I am a 'native American', I was born here.
If I were an Indian, I would long for the old days when you could whack your squaw upside the head with a war club, drag her out of the lodge, and move in that hot young thing that could skin a buffalo as fast you could shoot 'em.

As a Native American i would feel a sense of hostility towards 'new' americans for the simple fact that i would be considered a minority in my home land.

No. We lived in extra sensible properties than the ecu settlers. We have been extra sensible farmers, too. We theory THEY have been primitive. Our women individuals have been respected, they taken care of theirs like sources. We had very extreme standards of hygiene, and that they have got been grimy people who lived of their very own dirt. They knew little or no approximately living in our united states of america, and often extremely survived with out help. They have been ignorant and (by our standards) sick-mannered and impolite.
