on the rounds, he pets the dog and obviously can't wash his hands. I'm not being petty, just want to work out if it is hygienic as I doubt if it is allowed in other food type establishments! I have preschool children to think about! Am I concerned over nothing or should I go back to supermarket milk? Please, sensible answers only! Thanks.

Think about it logically - your milkman could have handled ANYTHING before delivering your milk. How do you know he washed his hands after going to the toilet? There's no way of knowing.

Just the same as there's no way of knowing if the person who put the milk out in the supermarket has clean hands - and the same applies to anything you buy from a shop.

You can't guess at what germs are on anything, but chances are you're at no more risk with this than anything else. Effectively, he isn't handling the milk - if you're concerned wipe down the carton or bottle with an antibacterial wipe. To be honest, the chances of getting ill because your milkman has a dog are no greater than with anything else.

Does every single customer in the supermarket wash their hands before handling the stock?
Unless his dog has an awful disease then you have nothing to worry about. If you are that concerned buy a decontamination chamber and put all your groceries through it because this is the only possible way to ensure that no trace of any animal will touch them.
See what I mean - there are contamination risks everywhere and the only thing we can do is be sensible about things. Basically give the bottle a rub with a damp cloth with a drip of fairy liquid or dettol on it when you take it off the doorstep and it will be as clean as you will ever need it to be.

Absolutely concerned over nothing. There are all sorts of air borne particles floating around the milk bottles - our external environment is full of pollution. We do not need to live in a sterile bubble. He isn't in a food establishment he is delivering milk which is in a package. How do you think the milk gets to the supermarket and do you think the driver of the truck is going to wash his hands all the time. All you have to do is wipe the milk bottles before putting them in the fridge (which makes sense if they have been on your doorstep).

Unless the dog had licked his bum and then drank some of your milk whilst delivering it I dont see what the problem is? I think that you are being a bit irrational here! Reality is your kids are will catch more infections from inside your own home then a milkman who happens to exercise his dog whilst on his rounds.

It is highly unlikely that the dog will pass on any germs that could get to your children - you are not geing petty just a bit over protective. There are probably more germs from the supermarket milk being handled by hundreds of people. It's good for kids to be exposed to germs occassionally - too clean is not good for anyone - it makes you more sensitive to germs.

Well, if you think about it, it is highly unlikely that the dog ever touches the milk bottles .... don't forget all the number of people who have handled the cartons by the time it gets to a supermarket! The dog is not a health risk.

Do you let them drink straight from the bottle then.(That would be discusting) I am sure there are alot worse germs then from the dog. Milkman might go loo and nowhere to wash hands. Surely you pour the milk into another container first

i think it should be fine the milk is sealed so no hair or dirt can get inside the milk...he is only touching the bottles. the kids drink the milk through straws anyway. and if you think where the bottles have been and how many hands have touched it before him you would worry yourself sick. but if you are truly concerned you could always wipe off the bottles before handing them out. but 50 years ago nobody would have even noticed this,,,these days we are shielding ourselves from dirt too much.. our immune system are becoming weak..think about this. !!!!

As long as you and the kids arent licking the outsides of the bottle theres no probs. Other places tend to handle the food directly.

can not you spot that the canine does'nt grant the milk!! additionally, the milkman is plenty greater possibly to %. up germs from the grimy previous bottles or packing containers that human beings go away out for series. additionally, whilst he is going to the lavatory/John whilst he's on his rounds, do you particularly think of he wakes somebody up at 5.00am to apply their lavatory and wash his palms after?! additionally, do you think of he's taking the precise/lid off to poke his hands in to verify if its cool sufficient for delivery!? Get actual!
