If it's an old silver dollar, don't spend it, it's worth at least $17.50 The old silver dollars are about the size of your pinky and have the American Eagle on the back. The newer dollar coin's have Susan B. Anthony on them

A dollar is a dollar is a dollar. Use it anywhere. Vending machines are the only place you'd have to check to see if that particular machine will accept the dollar coin.

If you mean the golden dollars with Sacajuwea and a baby. Those can be used anywhere that accepts regular money.

You can use them anywhere to purchase whatever you like; they are legal tender. Not many vending machines take them, unfortunately; personally, I think it would be great if they caught on.
