I see all of these answers blaming Zionism for this and that. Do any of you people actually know what Zionism is and its history, or are you just throwing around a political buzzword because it makes you sound sophisticated?

Most simply, Zionism is the belief that there needs to be a Jewish homeland. The term originated in 1891 and gained its real recognition under Theodor Herzl in 1897. There have always been different versions of Zionism, based on religion, socialism, politics, culture, etc. As usual, evangelical Christians have adopted it to their own ends, namely creating the conditions for Armageddon and the Rapture.

People aren't throwing around a political buzzword. They're tossing about the latest version of anti-semitism. I am horrified at this bizarre coalition of the left and the far right. The latter is understandable, they hate anybody who is different. But the former, why are they so unwilling to see that Israel is in an untenable situation? Their cherished martyrs in the Gaza Strip won't be settled in their own country so long as they can be used by Arab and Muslim leaders to hurt Israel. We need the left to be calling on the Arab League to do their part to end the crisis they created.

But why bother reading history? It's easier to trot out the old cliches and blame the Jews for everything.

I know that Zionism is a political movement of Judaism that calls for Jews to have their own nation-state (Israel). It's similar to what Islamism is to Islam except Zionism generally isn't violent.
