Animals collect energy by eating things. It goes through this process:
you eat something, which contains sugar, fat, or proteins.
you're digestive system breaks it all down, and the broken down food gets sent to you're bloodstream.
the bloodstream distributes the food to all the cells in your body.
the cells take the food, and break it down further, and make ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the energy source for all living things. The one everyone learns about is cellular respiration where Glucose is broken down to make ATP.
what plants do is they take the energy from sunlight, Carbon dioxide, and water and make Glucose, which is where energy is stored. You eat the glucose, and break it back down to Carbon dioxide and Water, and release the energy in ATP. your body's cells will also break down fats, proteins, and alcohols to produce energy.

They collect energy through a process called cellular respiration. This produces ATP, or Adenosine-Tri-Phosphate, which the cells use for energy to perform the cells functions.
