Krakatoa, a volcano located between Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. In August of 1883, after 200 years of dormancy, the island of Krakatoa disappeared and left a 300 meter deep hole in the sea. The noise was so great it was heard 5,000 km. Ash was blown 80 km high and landed 2,000 km away, darkening the sky for 2 days. Huge tsunamis 40 meters high drowned 35,000 people and destroyed 500 villages. The fine ash blown high in the atmosphere caused red sunsets in Europe and cooled the global temperature by .5 C for a few years. Krakatao also exploded in 1979.

OK, I don't have much time to type (at library, time running out for the day) but I think it's Krakatoa and you might want to try searching under alternate spellings. Try geology sites or just try a search engine to find stuff to lead you in the right direction.

I think I've seen an answer on Yahoo Answers like this before under a different spelling. Not sure, but don't focus on one spelling and you might have better luck.
