i sypathise, i had an episiotomy with both children, regular salt baths help, no it doesnt sting, if you need to open you bowels hold a wad of tissue over the stiches firmly, it helps with the pain of straining, midwife told me that, it works. salt water will keep the area clean too, try sitting on a inflatable ring used for swimming, takes the pressure off, once stitches diddolve, it gets easier, usually about a week after stitches

Did they tell you what to do in the hospital or give you a telephone number to call with any questions?
It is so sad these days that new mums seem to be kicked out of hospital so soon after birth. No wonder these problems come up and you are left to fend for yourself.
I think there is so much good advice here, but I would be very careful about the advice to spray your privates with a sunburn spray without the advice of a doctor. You don't want to risk infection or further irritation.
Ice packs and witch hazel pads (tucks brand) often are very soothing. As is a soak in warm water.
The fact that you say you are feeling stinging makes me wonder if perhaps you've developed a bladder infection. That being the case it is best advised to phone your doctor, clinic, nurse, or hospital where you gave birth and I am sure there will be someone there to help you out properly. They can ask you the necessary questions that can't be asked here on this page.
Risks of infection after giving birth are quite high and you wouldn't want that.
Hope you feel better soon! I gave you a star!!
Hugs to you and the baby! What did you call him?

Okay, what you need the most is a perineum bottle or "peri" bottle. You can get one (and it's only a couple of dollars) at any drug store. Once you get it, you fill it up with lukewarm water and squirt it directly onto the stitches both before and after you pee. It will keep the area clean (as best as you can) and will dilute the ammonia from the urine. Second, you NEED Dermaplast! It is a spray (also found at the drugstore for a couple bucks) that numbs the area and provides SO much relief!! This pain and discomfort won't last more than a week but I know it's tough to get through, I delivered 3 girls vaginally myself and tore with all three!

Congratulations! ...and poor you! The stitches are tightening up a little now, and will feel MUCH better tomorrow or the next day - you're nearly there!
For tonight and tomorrow, practice your pelvic floor muscle exercises a LOT, and they will help circulation to the perineum, which in turn will help your healing.
Take plenty of showers if you don't have a bidet, at least four each day, and that will also help.
Walk around the house a lot - the longer you sit, the tighter they get, and the worse they'll feel when you pass water.
Hang in there, the worst is over.

Soak in the bathtub in nice warm water, and also use cold compresses or ice packs ( don't put the ice directly against the tissue as this may cause damage, wrap in washcloth). Get some Tuck's pad and place them on the incision line or use Witch Hazel, which you can by at the drug store and soak some cottom balls and use this to compress as well. These will all soothe the area. Make sure that you keep this area clean as well otherwise you may end up with an infection.
These stiches will start to feel better in a couple of days but make sure you are eating properly and getting your proper rest.

I had the same problem with two of my pregnancies. It really helps if you get some kind of bottle that you can keep warm water in. They actually gave me one at the hospital, like a water bottle with the sport top. If you run the warm water over yourself while you are urinating it will not burn!! I also had a hard time sitting down. I got a "doughnut" which is like an inflatable life ring you use in the swimming pool and sat on it until they were better. Withing about a week to 10 days it was much better.
Congratulations on your new bundle of joy!!

Give it a week - it gets better. I also had an episiotomy (2 years ago). Plenty of baths in savlon bath or salt water to keep it clean. Try leaning forward when you pee - or a friend of mine found peeing in the shower helpful (this sounds gross, but trust me - if you've had an episiotomy you'll do anything.)
I promise it will get better quickly - sorry you had a traumatic birth - I did too, but my daughter is 2 years now and its all a dark and distant memory. Best of luck and congratulations xc

i would use a warm bottol of water at each bathroom break and a sitz bath once a day. It will take 7-10 days for your body to heal and the pain to subside. You can also use neosporine with pain reliever through the day to keep the area moist and aid in healing.
Blessings, and take it easy, rest is best.

Don't worry most of us go through it with my son he was so big 10lbs 4oz I required 17 stitches. If you can put cold compresses on the area and when you go to the bathroom try to kinda lean forward or get a squirt bottle and squirt water out while you are urinating to dilute the acids in your urine. Congrats on your son.
