In the movie it doens't really go into depth about what the play is about.
It does however show that Landon's lady thinks he is having an affair after being caught talking to an angel (jamie),
then he asks her to sing to him, and she beings singing "only hope".
In the play in the book, Landon is the widower father of a daughter in which he has ignored after his wife has died. The angel (jamie) comes down and shows him his daughter is the lively hood of his wife.

of what i can figure out is about a big time manager needs a new singer & Jamie gets the part & he falls in love with her but it does not tell it all that well in the movie

you know. I don't think they actually say what it is supposed to be about, and we don't get to see the whole thing just her singing for the most part.
