Anyone have any ideas on how we could get scared and actually have a genuine thrill at the movies anymore? It seems that everyone has become so desensitized that it's impossible. What would you have in a movie to scare people/make them jump or scream?

(Asked last night also, got three good answers but bad time of night for a question.)

I don't think they're trying to scare us anymore. The directors are more focused on making us sick. Blood, guts, and decapitation are the new scare.

I think getting away from blood, gore, and ghosts (which I love) but going more into the human psyche. A good example is Hide and Seek with Robert Deniro that is such a good movie. They need to take our worst fears and deepest thoughts that scares and make them real. That is what would really scare us at this point I think.

i agree with smokin and roswell. hollywood is to caught up in grossing everyone out instead of giving us a real good scare.the paranormal and stuff that is just plain creepy is better that the slasher stuff. i'd watch an old b&w that i've seen 50 times before i'd watch another slasher movie.
