I just built this computer two weeks ago, and i know vista will run but i want to know which features I wont have. I have vista home premium already here just not installed. My computer is a 3.0 ghz pentium D 830 dual core processor, it has 512 mb of PC4200 DDR2 ram, it has a DVD\CD burner with dual layer support, it has a Nvidia 7600 GT 256mb of DDR3 ram graphics card, and a 160 GB harddrive. The only thing i dont have is the recommended 1 gb of ram but will Vista Home Premium run on this computer with flip 3d and aero, and which features will not function. Thanks.

It will most likely run those features since you have a good enough graphics card, but they will slow down the computer signifcantly because of your lack of RAM. I would seriously not advise you to run Vista at all until you get at least 1GB of RAM, 512 is simply not enough to get good performance out of Vista.

I ran Vista on an AMD 2200 with 512MB DDR RAM and a 32MB video card.

So it depends on what you plan to use it for. The Vista machine (running on beta) is used as a media center PC right now. So it serves my MP3s and video files and backup storage for my pictures. I also use it with a TV tuner card and to surf the internet on my 42" LCD TV or check e-mail.

I run office applications (i.e. Excel or Powerpoint) and it is also fine.

I wouldn't plan on doing any video editing or gaming on it but that's a no-no with any OS except DOS and DOS games.

Microsoft provides a utility called Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor 1.0 to answer your questons. It will look at your hardware and tell you what versions of Vista will run. Here is the link.
