Based on the information you gave it could be several things:
1. Restart your computer and press F8 repeatedly as soon as it starts to restart, it will give you options to start in Safe Mode. Choose Safe mode.
2. Once your computer starts up, scan it with your adware/spyware cleaner to rule out any malicious software causing this.
3.go to Start-- Run-- TYPE in msconfig----click on startup--- uncheck everything except your antivirus (pretty much everything you see can be unchecked without a problem. All this does is stop programs from starting up with your computer, you don't need every program running in the background when your not even using it, this just uses all your memory up. Once done click apply and restart normally.
4. Once you get to your desktop again, go online and download a small free program called ccleaner, this will clean up all the junk files on your computer, very simple to use.

Panthp and John L answered this question.........click Start>Run and type msconfig........click on the startup tab and unclick everything except your antivirus software and reboot. You will get a message when you start that says that you have reconfigured, just click on "Don't show this message again" and hit enter. That may fix your problem. Note that anything that you stop from loading can either be restarted by doing the msconfig and rechecking it or by loading it manually.

It sounds like a drive conflict. Check the Event Viewer in the Administrative tools. It will give you an idea as to what the problem is.

Virus? Boot into safe mode - restart - at black screen keep tapping the F8 key - choose safe mode. Do a virus and spyware scan. Clean out everything and reboot.

This happened to me all the time,
This is what you do, turn on your computer about 10minutes before you start using it so it gives time to load
It does that because when you start the computer everything is loading and you start clicking and it give the computer more things to load and it start freezing.
