does being a child of a single parent cause insecurity?

In some kids, yes. Some of them think like, "well I wasn't good enough to keep mom/dad around" or "if I had been better so and so wouldn't have left". Its sad but many of the remaining parents don't bother telling the kids that they weren't the reason for the divorce and some actually blame the kids.

I cannot get over how some people talk about children of divorce. I personally come from parents who SHOULD HAVE gotten a divorce. A divorce is better than viewing emotional or physical abuse. I would have lost the ability to love correctly? Funny, my parents were so awful for each other they never got around to showing me how to love in a relationship. I woul dhave much rather been "damaged" by a divorce than an unhappy marriage. I deal with the issues almost everyday of my life.

not so much "insecurity", more like "unstability"

divorce is basically the worst thing that could happen to a child that is still under around 18 yrs old
just avoid it as much as possible if you really love your children i sapose.
