My mom recently asked me if male cattle and horses have nipples, and I could not answer for certain. I know that male humans, rodents, cats, and dogs, do. But do large animals? Although I have worked with horses and cows I have never taken a good look. Anyone who knows for sure? A silly question, perhaps, but I am quite curious!

Note I said MALE cattle/horses. Of course I know that FEMALES have them!
My point is that I know MALE mammals of other species have rudimentary nipples and that I have never noticed if MALE cattle/horses have them.

Yes male horses and cattle have nipples. I know this because when I get my stallions to mount the phantom(to gather semen) you'll clearly see 2 little nipples about 4-6 inches from the sheath. Also when we go to castrate our bulls or brand them when we flip them on their sides you'll be able to identify what seems like 2 cowlicks about 4 inches apart and if you move the hair or poke them you'll feel the nipple. I'll warn you though- most horses and cattle don't like you doing so.

Out of that group I would say that the dog is the most odd. This is because out of these four animals the dog has been selectively bred for so many variations. A chihuahua is able to breed with a great dane, genetically they are compatible. Horses, cats and cows just don't have the physical variation of dogs.

I have worked at a ranch collecting stallions for over 10 years and I can tell you that I have never seen or felt nipples on the stallions. I'm not sure about bulls though.

to put it plain and simple no male cattle and horses dont. good question though, since alot of mammals(male and female) do have nipples. but on a horse and cow, they are called teats

yes, male bovine have 4-6 teats, just like a cow would, but they do not develop like a cow's do. Horses also have teats. it's just like dogs, cats, or people. Just because an animal is male doesn't mean that they don't have teats (or nipples). Men would look pretty weird if they didn't have nipples wouldn't they?

As a side note: Teats and Nipples are the same thing... Teats is just a more technical term.

It is a very odd question, I know that Horses have nipples, though not what you would see on human or dog. they are more like 'flaps.' A cows udder is their nipples (where we extract milk from).

And yes Horses do have nipples, they arn't in a row of ten or twelve like a dog, but they are there. If you know how to care for a female horse then you know you have to clean that area as well. Also most if not all mammals have nipples because they give live birth...

Hope this helps!

No, ma'am, they don't. I've worked with horses and cattle all my life and I can honestly say that I've been close enough to say for certain that they don't.
