Volunteer with Habitat for Humanity adn you will learn to see beyond yourself, help other people, and put your time and energy into good use. PLus, you will meet a wide variety of people while you work. I had no home improvement skills at all, but I could paint, or help clean up, and it was a good social outlet for me.

Firstly, you have to quit feeling uncomfortable with yourself. Learn to just relax, and feel alright in your own skin. Then, venture out - be friendly to people and soon enough you'll accumulate more friends than you could have ever imagined. Just remember to smile, be polite, and also - Never try too hard!
Good luck =)

Well it depends what you're into, find what you like than talk about it with obvious people who like the same thing.
You'll have more friends that way.
