No; though related, they are different facets of the same notion. Compassion is kind empathy or sympathy; mercy is acting on the compassion.

No it's not repetitive...however they both stem from love. Mercy is not giving someone something they deserve. Compassion is showing love because it breaks your heart not to...and you can be mercifully compassionate.

No mercy and compassion are two separate things. Compassion is when you help others (generally less fortunate) out. Mercy is when you can cause them harm but stay your hand. These are not the best definitions but you can easily look both words up in the dictionary or on m-w.com (online dictionary).

merciful means that the God will forgive you
compassionate means he is give you good things and love you

To some people perhaps.
Depends on the group or the person you are speaking to, and
there understanding of (either spiritual or basic) of merciful.
Compassionate would probably just do it.
