this is under intense debate: the traditional number of kingdoms is 5: Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, Protista, and Monera

however, there are several recent proposed models, which places all life in three domains: archea, bacteria, and eukarya, and some which produces numerous different kingdoms.

the answer you're looking for is 5, because you only have several choices, but be aware that it's not the only taxonomic system,

My textbook uses a 6-kingdom system because the bacteria have been determined to be too genetically diverse to keep in the same kingdom.

Two kingdoms of prokaryotes: Eubacteria, Archaebacteria
Three kingdoms of eukaryotes: Protista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia

I agree that there are several different systems in use, but this 6-kingdom system is the one I've been teaching my students for the last several years.
