I have to answer this question based on this quote:

"Darkness came. There was no moon. Clouds hid the stars."

The question is:
How does syntax here help to establish the mood?

I'm not asking you to do it for me, I just need you to explain what syntax is and how to apply it to this quote and question.

Syntax is the placement and use of punctuation and the order of words. I think the question is, how would the mood be different if, for example it were all one sentence with commas instead of periods.

I think the answer has to do with the slower pace with the "full stops" of the periods.
