It depends how much you're bleeding. There usually is some bleeding after you give birth. I would go check in with your doctor, if you're worried call soon.

How long ago did you give birth? It is normal to have postpartum bleeding after giving birth. It typically lasts for 2 to 3 weeks after giving birth. But for some women it can last up to 6 weeks. It probably is not your menstrual cycle. It is more than likely postpartum bleeding. Your doctor should have told you about this. Usually they give you huge elephant maxi pads to use while you are at the hospital and some more to take home. Check the link that I gave you below.

If the birth was recent: You will have heavy to light discharge that will be more red at first, but will darken & turn more brownish to a light yellow near the end of the 6 week period.
This is normal.

If you are having very heavy discharge & saturating a full pad an hour...this is not normal.

No, it's perfectly normal. You may bleed for several weeks after having a baby. I'm surprised your doctor or the hospital did not warn you of this. I was sent home with a pack of super maxi-pad like things. Do NOT use tampons. You can use pads instead.

No. That bloody fluid is called "lochia" at first its bright red="rubra",then in a few days it becomes a brownish color,"serosa" In about 7-10 days the lochia becomes pale lochia "alba".After 6 -8 wks the normal hormone cycle will return and your period will start. Congrat's on your new baby, take care. SW RNP
