Ducks are messy! If you want one there are some things to keep in mind:

They need water that can be changed at least once a day for a healthy duck. One duck is plenty of work, so if you want more you'll need an outdoor enclosure. Have an area that's dog proofed. Dogs LOVE ducks and neighbors don't replace them! When peepers they'll need a heat lamp and you'll need to expand the enclosure as they grow.
Depending on where you live you'll need to put wire under the cage to keep out foxes and wolves. (Or maybe that's just my problem!) You'll need to hold them TONS when little so they'll bond to you, otherwise they'll be raving wild lunatics.
Spend time with them every day or they'll stranger from you. If you're prepared, though, they can made great fun pets. But I do hope you like water as much as they do! (Have an extra pair of duck cloths!)

If you are ready for that kind of responsibility and know what you will need to feed and care for you duck then sure i think that a duck will be a great pet.

I think ducks make good pets. When I was a child, my mother was given two ducks at Easter. They would follow her around. We lived in the city and, when the ducks got too big, we had to give them away. One of the men who worked for my dad said he would take them because they were "good eating." He could not kill them, so he gave them to a farmer who said he would have them for dinner. The farmer could not kill them, so they had a long and happy life.

I study animal behavior and communication and have rad amazing things about many animals including ducks.

Ducks are beautiful pets, although I advise you to carefully read and research about owning ducks before jumping ahead. They are alot of work and need a habitat that they can enjoy life in, do you got that? A pond? Do you know what they eat? Do you know how they live? Research it then move ahead.

I totally want ducks--they're adorable!

Make sure they have water to paddle around in, no mean doggies to harass/kill them (country dogs don't always respect property lines), and a good source of duckie food. And a nice duckie shelter to sleep in.

I used to live in a neighborhood called the Duck Park--cuz there was a duck park, and I looooved seeing the duckies (some migratory ducks came there, too.)

Awwwwww!

I'd say it's a great idea! I had one when I was little as a pet. The thing used to follow me around the house and loved tea! And seeing you live in the country makes it even better.

Ducks are nice and cute but when it comes to space , it comes to money. ducks need alot of space and need lots of friends. If having a pet duck you must respect it and give it the right space. Ducks can also be very expensive to keep and to but unless wild caught wich i do not recomend. Please bare in mind they can hert with a bite and are very hard to train not to. :) hope it helped

I had a duck as a pet few years back. Rescused a duckling from wire. Unfortunately only lived a few days but if you love birds and can look after it........then go for it.
