Yes there is. The only difference between the bigotry ans racism of the Baby Boomer era and the bigotry and racism of today is that now it is more under the surface. Violent acts of bigotry(the murder of James Byrd sometimes in either 1998 or 1999) still happen. The difference now is that the bigotry has become more insidious and not as easy to notice. The feelings haven't changed. The laws have though. Nowadays you can't tell a child he can't go to school because of his skin color and get away with it or deny a customer service at a restaurant because of his skin color and ge away with it. Such acts have been made illegal. However, this doesn't mean that the bigotry has been eradicated. A child could be subject to harsher punishments than other students or a customer could be treated badly by the restaurant staff. Just because the laws have changed doesn't mean the bigotry has stopped. It still happens. It is just more insidious and covert.

Why is it that most people (black and white) who will read your question will automatically assume the bigots and racist you speak of are only WHITE? I'm over 50 y/o and lived in NY and Calif. and I have seen a lot of acts by African Americans toward Whites and other racial groups, which define what Racism is.
