Go to http://www.arba.net click on the link for the breed photos. then click on the New Zeland link. that will take you to the New Zeland national club. you should be able to find some breeder's from there. Also, on that same website, you should be able to find the the link for Sanctioned shows, there you can search for shows in your local area, where you can find other local breeders, they usually have sale stock at the shows with them, or are willing to give you contact info so you can get some from them later on. The other breed I would suggest would be the Californian. :)

My dad and I raise New Zealand Whites. It's hard to tell you an exact person to go to without knowing where you are located.
I'd recommend going to the website:
http://www.afnzrb.org/breederslist.html
It should list a few New Zealand breeders around your area. Or contact your local 4-H office and ask them. Make sure that whoever you go to buy rabbits off of that you tell them that you are looking specifically for New Zealands for meat production and not show. And that you don't need pedigrees for the rabbits.
If you ask for pedigrees or a show rabbit they will charge you a lot more than for a meat rabbits without a pedigree.
The ones that will work best for meat production are the ones that have a long wide loin. They will gain weight much quicker and put on more meat.

Are you an ARBA member? if so you may seem interior the kin rabbit mag for the processors on your state. The maagzine has them indexed and how a lot they're at the moment paying. raising rabbits for commercial applications will in common words make funds for you if you're raising hundred of fryers. Processors will purchase rabbits over 4 kilos. For human intake they pick them at no better than 10 weeks previous. For puppy ingredients they'll purchase any age yet they do no longer pick to procedure the small ones (less than 4 kilos) a sturdy position to commence is on the ARBA internet web site. also turning out to be a member is an outstanding theory.

NZWs breed well, but it can be nice when your rabbits have some variety and attractive colors, especially if you might ever want some furs. The Satin breed has gorgeous fur in all kinds of colors, and they're also a good meaty breed. Consider getting a stud or doe of a color you like.
When buying rabbits, don't go for washed-out does. They're big, but their long dewlaps and low muscle tone betray their age. Buy them young.
When you find a breeder, ask them where they get their food. Rabbits are rarely cost-efficient, so it's important to buy feed cheap.
