I told her I would help her, and now I have to stop what I'm doing every five freakin minutes to answer her questions, and tell her whether or not her G- string is buzzing(haha). She knows just enough to sound almost like a guitar. Am I a jerk for wanting to put my headphones on and take a nap?Or should I tell her it was all just a big mistake?

No, you're not a jerk, just impatient. Give her a chance to learn. She could be nagging you to go shopping or paint her toenails or some other stupid thing like that. I made horrible noise with my guitar for months but now I play pretty well. She just has to get over that initial hump. Once her fingers get used to it she'll sound better - hopefully!

No one plays well at first, so taking lessons would be a great step forward, but she will still need to practice. Improvement only comes with practice, and as she improves she may need it more than now.

If she really wants to play, and you really care for her, encourage it endlessly.

Playing music on the guitar, and actually sharing the experience between two people can be like learning another language, one you both understand, and one you can feel within you.

As skill grows the depth of meaning that goes into playing the music also develops and if the sharing is continued the results can sometimes be almost another dimension of love.

Those are moments you will never forget.

Hey, not everyone has the patience to be a teacher. Thats Ok. Just be honest with her. You could get her guitar lessons from a professional as a gift to make up for it. Just dont outright say you think she sucks. Remember, she is still learning and with time will improve.

maybe you can pick up an instrument and you two could learn together, it doesn't sound so bad when you are behind the music.

could be something fun to do together.

besides people learn faster when they jam

I say have way more patience with her. Beginners need plenty of it from themselves & their teachers.
