I am not sure what my thought are on the vaccination, it is new. However, I don't like it being mandated for 11-12 year olds to have it.

yes, granted 11-12 yrs old seems young. But you need to take precautions before they have sex. Even if they wait until they are married to have sex, there is no guarantee the husband did the same. He could just as easily carry the virus and pass it on to her.

If you think about it, you have to get certain other shots as a child. They make kids have vaccines for everything preventable at an early age with the DPT, MMR, The chicken pox vaccine, tuberculosis, it is all for the well being of the children and everyone around them.
I think they should do more research on the HPV vaccine before forcing it on people, but i think if it is effective and safe we should do everything we can to prevent people from suffering. HPV causes cervical cancer, which can be fatal if it spreads. Males carry the virus without knowing it and they dont do mandatory tests for it either. That should be something they do for it also. Once they do more research and work out any problems with it, I think it is a wonderful idea. It can prevent cancer, don't we want that?

Absolutely not.
First, the vaccine needs to be tested more before you start forcing it on people. What if it ends of causing other problems or birth defects down the line?

Second, this starts the infamous slippery slope. First you force all girls to get this vaccine. Then the goverment can further mandate what people do to themselves. Then, if your baby may be born with a possible birth defect, we mandate abortion. Then, if your baby isn't born the way the government wants it, we will abort it.
Women's groups who chant "My body, My Choice" should be out against this measure in full force.

If it can be given along with other vaccines in early childhood and remain effective for at least 20 years I would be for it. That way kids wouldn't know all of the ramifications. If it is given at puberty too many kids would see it as telling them it's ok for them to have sex with everyone they see.
I am a Christian who believes sex should be saved for marriage, and there are too many pressures on kids already to have sex, and our society is paying a high price for immorality.
This vaccine might help kids who make a mistake they later regret so that they won't have to pay for that mistake the rest of their life.

I'm not crazy about it being mandatory. But, many places mandate certain vaccines before going to school-- mumps, etc.

Given many girls are having sex earlier and entering puberty earlier now than years ago, I don't see why its a such a big deal.

Once again, I fear we will politicize something to do with sex and not see it as a health issue (which it is).

Why not? They mandate it for far less deadly diseases. As old Ben Franklin said, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"!

so far 9 idiots answered the question... the B answer is yes. the A answer is a vaccine must first be developed. it is ironical that to prevent AIDS you must not take a hot beef injection

I am conflicted about this, especially in light of birth control still being an unpopular, if not unacceptable, attitude with certain religions. Once the government dictates what we do with our bodies, or our children's bodies, it's loss of more freedoms.

I think it is a fantastic idea. I have hpv and didn't know it until I had a pap and had pre-cancerous cells. If every state did this it would save countless lives.

Girls should get it early before they have sex, not before the parents PLAN for them to have sex because they are probably going to be wrong.
