I was recently watching an old episode of SEX IN THE CITY and one of the girls was having phone sex, is that a very common thing nowadays?

I'd say it's more popular now. Especially with the fact that almost everyone has their own cell phone.
Why not? It's fun. Better than playing alone. And with all the diseases around these days, it's definitely safer.

I would think it was a more common thing nowadays because there are so many people chatting online and they are far away. So, just like cyber sex is common I would imagine phone sex is too.

Yes it is, and I cant believe they actually have them.
Once me & my friend accidently called a wrong number & it was a phone sex hotline. The lady or machine was moaning and she said "im horny find some other horny people by paying 2 dollars a minute with a credict card"
aha we never wanted to call that again but it was hilarious!

I think is overrated, to me was always natural, though I never lost the control of my masculinity through a long conversation with any female. At the time 19 years old, I though it was pleasing, though after I learn that it became a new Industry in U.S., I avoid it all alone, as well that I begin to avoid telephones all together.

It is still a common thing but it is getting less and less common as people are moving into cyber sex

I think it's still "alive and well". We just don't hear about it as much...unless you get on a soft or hard porn website. I always wondered why people like that didn't find someone to make love to--although I don't believe in promniscuity--and get their appetite filled?
