Which institution is held in highest regard, particularly by the barristers' inns?

I've never seen any indication that it matters where you do the CPE. The only thing people are interested in is how well you do in the exams. Similarly the Inns of Court do not rank in any particular order, although every barrister will believe that his place is the best! Choose the place which is most convenient to you and which has good library facilities. Avoid somewhere with too good a social life, as studying law is harder work than anyone ever imagines and you don't want too many distractions.

Some of the 'elite' law firms prefer you to study your LPC at a particular place, but aren't really fussed about the CPE. It's the same wherever.

If you're concerned about snob factor then I guess Nottingham has it, as maybe does Inns of Court School of Law. The polys certainly don't. Bear in mind though that by going for snob value you'll end up surrounded by the sort of people that have done the same. That might be a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view!

As far as I know its Yale. Harvard is up there, though I think Yale outranks them as far as law is concerned.
