The Three Bears who lived in Whitfield.
One Sunday morning the three bears got up and Mummy Bear made porridge. The porridge was too hot so Daddy Bear suggested they go out for a dander. Off they popped strolling through the estate. After about half an hour they headed on home. On arriving home they saw the front door to their house was off its hinges. They rushed into the house and Daddy Bear said 'Someones been eating my porridge'. Mummy Bear said 'Someones been sleeping in my bed'. Baby Bear said 'Stuff the porridge and the beds, where's the bl**dy VCR?'.

My absolute favourite is "The Big Brag" by Dr Seuss. It's an amusing story about a bear and a rabbit arguing about which of them is best, only to be put in their place by a smart little worm. It's a great story to read to arguing siblings; it will make them laugh out loud, yet highlight the futility of claiming they're "better" at things than their younger brothers or sisters ... and it still has me laughing now, just remembering some of the hilarious lines of verse.

For children, The Little Wooden Horse by Ursula Moray Williams. My mum read it to be during the black outs of the 1970s by the light of a candle! It is the adventure of a wooden horse on wheels made by a toy maker whose new wife, in a jealous rage, threw the little horse away. He sets off on an amazing series of adventures, facing defeat and tragedy - but he never gives up! Is he reunited with the old toy maker? You'll have to read it to your children to find out....

I loved the three billy goats gruff or the princess and the pea when I was a little little girl but you cant beat the fontana series of ghost stories. I love a good scare at the end of each day and you really appreciate your duvet to hide behind ....

Oh my goodness, I think my Mum read The Little Wooden Horse to me - it really rings bells - was there something to do with him losing his red wheels?
Ahem! I love reading, and my little boy loves having read to him Room On The Broom. It's a story in rhyme about a witch and the passengers she picks up. I have different voices for each character and my son says the line that is repeated every so often "Whoosh, they were gone"!

There's a couple...my favorite was "Muddigush" but I forget who the author is-it's about kids who go out and stomp in mud all day. I also love the "Visit to the Bunny Planet" series by Rosemary Wells...perfect after a little kid's bad day. :)
