was knock, a sort of role model for your child to look up to during tough times.

I know people with unusual surnames like yours. You have to pick names that don't get nicknamed into things that cause problems. Like, if it's a girl, I recommend not going with Dora (since she'll become "Dor" in passing--Dor Knock.)

I think James, nicknamed Jimmy, is cute with your last name. I also think the names Ryan, Brian, and Allen work well.

For girls, Julia is cute, Olivia is nice, and Jenna is teriffic.
