I've heard that it's dangerous.....but how? And is it really possible to get high off of it? I'm not thinking of trying, but at the school dance last night tons of kids were breathing in balloon after balloon in the hallway to see how high they could make they're voice.

Yes it is possible to get high off of it but it takes quite a bit. The reason is it can cause a high when you cut off oxygen to the brain, this is why choking has become popular among middle schoolers. You are right when you say it is dangerous because your inhaling a gas that your body isn't used to haveing in such quantity, it can cause someone to passout and sometimes have worse side effects.

It is very dangerous to huff helium. It displaces oxygen and causes rapid asphyxiation. The bad thing about that is CPR usually doesn't revive a person. Fortunately, the helium used for balloons have air mixed in but not enough to support life so huffing it will kill, just not as fast a pure helium will. Don't do it, people who do are idiots.

DON'T DO IT!!!!! Any time you inhale a gas other than plain old air, you are getting the wrong mix of gasses. Your brain is deprived of the proper levels of oxygen. This is BAD. Cells die quickly without O2. Plus, there can be other medical problems like fluctuating blood pressure and toxic effects. The dizzy "high" feeling followed by the pounding headache is your body's way of telling you not to do it. Silly voices aren't worth dying for. You are not having fun. Go dance with your friends and get "buzzed" when that cute guy/girl smiles at you.

I can honestly say I do not know the answer to your question, but this you MUST know. Helium can kill, if enough is inhaled. Of course, this goes past what inhaling a little does to make your voice "squeaky." At the squeaky voice point, your vocal chords are paralyzed, thus the squeaky result. But it is still dangerous to do, because you never know when you'll cross that fine line between fun and potential danger or death.

I don't think you can get high. You can get lightheaded because helium displaces that air in you lungs and you get deprived of oxygen. Breathing in some to make funny noises should be OK, but you might not want to do it for too much for too long.

If you breathe too much of it you run out of oxygen and can suffocate. I suppose if you did have to much you could temporarily get high off it, but probably not in the sense you could from most drugs

You can get really high if you hold on to a big enough balloon.
