Whats wrong with learning to defend yourself or must you rely on government for everything like little children?

I think people who do this are not humans but sheep in human skin.

I agree with your premise. People should become more self-reliant and stop depending on the government.

But at the same time, the reality of our age is that our government does do a few things much more efficiently than we could do as individual citizens. Military and police spending are some things we have become very good at. So we should use those agencies since they are already in place.

Also, for the last 500 years it has been a tenant of western society that for the good of all citizens, the populations will give up some of it's privacy. It's just one of those trade offs for being able to life in a civilized community.

It's not just privacy we are giving up it's our rights in this country that people are willing to give up. Why? Because of fear and the fact they take our freedoms for granted so they are more willing to give those up for a padded room for their kids and family (metaphorically speaking of coarse). But that is the gist of it. And, yes they are sheep because they have forgotten to use their brains and want the government to think for them. Which we all know is very very dangerous.

This is very hard to understand. The Land of the Free and Home of the Brave seem completely willing to have their phones tapped without court orders, have the Real ID Act passed without discussion and poll after poll tells us while some people don't like it-it's fine in the name of "National Security". Somehow, they believe that the constitutional rights that have been taken away only affect "terrorists". We should know that lost constitutional rights affect everyone and that sometimes people are wrongly charged and convicted-that's why we believe in due process for all.

It is because we are all scared little children who haven't got a clue about anything we do and we fear others as much as we fear seeing truth in ourselves.

Also, in the case of terrorism, it is actually more true that we lose security when we give up our privacy.

Ben Franklin a founding father said those who would give up liberty for security desrve nither and that is probably what we're going to end up with in the end

Because people are generally fearful of everyone. Why do so many people feel they can't live without their guns..they fear their neighbors. Extrapolate that to a worlwide threat, and people are beside themselves with fear. Look at the nonsense in Boston last week.

Common sense as it's a matter of balance between the two.

Face it, Jack, you've never had TOTAL privacy and you'll never have TOTAL security - you will, however, always have some measure of each.
